With the need to bring climate change under control within the next decade,
sustainability has never been more important as it is now.
The creation of eco-friendly systems has expanded beyond architecture. Sustainability and resiliency
make me extremely confident about the future. Recycling buildings is a new start towards sustainability - to regenerate structures through the gaze of potential deconstruction was key in the Four Seasons Surf Club project where original structures were restored to guarantee resiliency.
For the redesign of the Historic 1 Hotel in Miami Beach, the use of regenerating building materials included
sustainable sourced wood products which was key to my ethos and an excellent resolution for an environmentally impactful award-winning design.
The potential effect on the environment will be enormous with these new trends.
Alternative energies, such as the storage packets used now in solar power systems, are far superior to alternative energies which have been used in the past.
Hydrogen batteries will be less intrusive and damaging to the environment for future sustainable cities. In the UAE, we designed the Al Ain Zoo, a natural habitat and hotel, which was the first to achieve a Five Pearl rating for
sustainability and received a platinum certification awarded by Estidama for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design.
Recognizing that we all operate in a connected world demands that we stay ahead of trends and anticipate the implications design has on people and places.
Staying informed, adaptable, focused and aware of global circumstances impacts the way we practice architecture is vital to the design methodology for constructing and building communities.
